Helping people of all ages get active, connect with others, and improve their health and wellbeing.

Our Active Communities programme supports individuals and groups facing barriers to physical activity—whether that's poverty, inequality, long-term health conditions, or limited access to opportunities. We work closely with local partners to deliver inclusive, supportive programmes that make a real difference in people’s lives.

Our vision

To inspire healthier, more connected communities across Stirling by empowering local sports clubs, organisations, and groups. Led by our Community Activation Team, we aim to create inclusive opportunities for people of all backgrounds, abilities, and circumstances to get active, build relationships, and thrive. Through collaboration and a deep understanding of local needs, we help foster participation and resilience—strengthening the social connection of our communities.

How We Can Help

Our Community Activation Team works in partnership with local organisations to break down barriers to participation and create inclusive opportunities for everyone.

We connect people with resources, support community-led initiatives, and promote positive social change—especially for those who need it most.

Together, we’re building a more active, connected, and resilient Stirling.

ClubSport Stirling (CSS) is a dedicated voluntary organisation committed to helping sports clubs grow and thrive within Stirling’s communities. Established in 1976 as Stirling District Sports Council, CSS provides guidance, education and training, funding opportunities, networking, and targeted initiatives. They also act as an advocacy body, raising awareness and ensuring local club sport remains a priority in the Stirling area.

Active Stirling partners with CSS to maintain a strong, sustainable network of local clubs delivering the life-changing benefits of sport for everyone.

Community Partnerships

The Community Activation Officers work closely with a wide range of local and regional partners to deliver informed, collaborative, and impactful opportunities that help Stirling’s communities get active.

We work with many youth focused organisations providing sport and physical activities as part of their work. This includes Stirling Council’s Senior Phase and Youth Participation Team , Support for Families, Youth Groups & more.

These organisations are essential for community voice and planning. We work with many across Stirling to connect with local people and support their work and projects for sport & physical activity. The community activation officers link with Stirling Council’s Community Development Team and third sector interfaces such as Stirling Voluntary Enterprise in providing a network of support.

As part of the partnership agreement with Stirling Council, Active Stirling provide targeted support and activities to the Stirling Council Locality Action Plan Areas (LAP's) as a matter of priority. This includes; Bannockburn & Hillpark, Cornton, Cowie, Fallin, Mercat Cross, Plean, Raploch & St Ninians. For more information on LAP's check out the link below;

Active Stirling were the first local authority to work directly with the Armed Forces community, and particularly those facing barriers to participation. Partnering with such charities as Combat Stress and SSAFA, the initial programme "Tee Times for Troops" was created offering free golf to veterans across the country. This programme allowed grant funding to be achieved from the Armed Forces Covenant which offered a wide range of opportunities including curling and gym-based activity. To allow sustainability post grant, members of the group were upskilled to deliver back to their peers. Curling has always remained a constant and now the 'Stirling Veterans Curling Club' is a constituted club supported by Active Stirling.

The Community Activation Team work with a whole host of community groups across the council area. These vary from weekly sessions to being present at local events, festivals and fayres. This allows the team to engage with the wider community and look to offer sport and physical activity as a one off with a link to a sustained activity within a local sports club or community session, or by creating sustainable sessions by upskilling volunteers to deliver to their peers.
