City of Stirling Community Sport Hub Celebrates Successful First Festival of Sport

The City of Stirling Community Sport Hub marked an important milestone on Sunday 26 April, hosting its first Festival of Sport at Stirling County Rugby Club and bringing local clubs, organisations and communities together through sport and physical activity.

Delivered as part of Active Stirling’s ongoing commitment to supporting Community Sport Hubs, the Festival of Sport demonstrated the value of partnership working by creating an inclusive and welcoming environment where people of all ages and abilities could get active, try something new and connect with local clubs.

Community Sport Hubs are a sportscotland initiative focused on connecting community sports clubs and community organisations to create sustainable opportunities for people to participate in sport and physical activity.

Established just over a year ago, the City of Stirling Community Sport Hub continues to develop through collaboration, with Active Stirling working alongside clubs to support shared learning, inclusion and local participation.

The Festival of Sport celebrated this progress by providing a platform for clubs to showcase their activity and engage directly with the community. Throughout the day, local residents took part in a range of drop‑in taster sessions delivered by hub partners, including:

I was very happy with how the event went on Sunday. It was great to see so many community members attending and getting involved with each activity. Each club did an amazing job of engaging participants and highlighting the range of sport and physical activity available through the Community Sport Hub. A personal highlight was seeing a young boy learn to ride a bike for the first time, grow in confidence and then attempt the pump track with Recyke a Bike. Moments like this really show how events such as the Festival of Sport can make a meaningful difference to people’s lives. We’d also encourage any other organisations who are interested in getting involved with the Community Sport Hub or future events to get in touch.

Tom Gebbie, Community Activation Officer

The Community Sport Hub would also like to thank Taste Culture for providing refreshments throughout the day and The Lord Provost, Councillor Rosemary Fraser, for attending the event, visiting each of the clubs and taking part in activities.

The success of the Festival of Sport reinforces Active Stirling’s commitment to working alongside clubs and community organisations through the City of Stirling Community Sport Hub, supporting collaboration, inclusion and sustainable opportunities for physical activity across Stirling.
