A new coached strength class is coming to The PEAK, giving you the opportunity to learn the fundamentals of barbell lifting in a supportive group environment.
Barbell Foundations launches on Tuesday 6 October, focusing on three fundamental lifts: the squat, bench press and deadlift.
Whether you're completely new to strength training, returning to lifting after a break or simply want to improve your technique, the class is designed to help you develop the skills and confidence to lift safely and effectively.
Learn the fundamentals
Led by instructor Ilhan Omar Nur Azam, Barbell Foundations focuses on learning how to perform each lift with good technique and control.
Across the session, you'll learn about:
- The fundamentals of the squat, bench press and deadlift
- Safe and effective lifting technique
- Positioning and movement mechanics
- Bracing and breathing
- How to move with control and good form
- Building confidence with a barbell and free weights
With expert coaching and a focus on quality movement, you'll build a strong foundation that you can take into your own training on the gym floor.

The class is Intensity Level 2 – Moderate and is suitable for adults and young people aged 16+. You don't need to be an experienced lifter to take part — the focus is on learning, improving and building confidence at your own level.
