SCOTTISH WOMEN & GIRLS IN SPORT WEEK 2022

Monday 3 – Sunday 9 October 2022

2022 marked the sixth year we have celebrated the Scottish Women and Girls in Sport Week. The Week provides an opportunity to increase visibility of women and girls in sport and physical activity, showcase partnerships, raise awareness of the barriers, and highlight the many health benefits it can bring.

Active Stirling are proud to support Active Scotland's Scottish Women & Girls in Sport Week 2022 and promote Active Girls month during October in association with sportscotland.

Playing our part

We have been busy throughout October playing our part to raise the profile of female sporting opportunities across Stirlingshire. We held an Active Girls event at The PEAK in Stirling. We have been sharing inspiring stories from our colleagues and young sports leaders. Working in partnership with our Club Sport Stirling community we have been able to highlight the many club sports sessions for women and girls of Stirling and its surrounding communities. And a 3-month membership at The PEAK was up for grabs in a competition run on social media throughout October to engage with women and hear how sport impacts them. As well as highlighting the many ways to get into sport with Active Stirling.

Club sports

Our partners ClubSport Stirling work with affiliated sports clubs in Stirling and in communities across Stirlingshire. Many of the clubs offer sessions and clubs for women and girls throughout the year but working in partnership we were able to promote various clubs and activities available during October as part of Active Girls month.

Featured clubs & activities

  • Coach my sport: floorball come and try sessions
  • Dunblane sport hub: Dunblane dodgers dodgeball come and try session
  • Tennis at Stirling lawn tennis and squash club - come and try
  • Stirling young curlers – try curling session
  • Forth valley orienteering – come and try session

If you are looking for a pathway into sport, Clubs are an excellent option. Not only can you take part in your chosen sport, but you will also be part of a community of like-minded people.

Competition

As part of Active Stirling’s’ commitment to raise the profile of women and girls in sport, we ran a competition on social media throughout October, encouraging women and girls to engage and share their favourite sports and the benefits. We wanted to hear from real women about the sports they enjoy and to connect with other women who may be looking to get involved but would otherwise not know where to start.

And the winner is…

Ania Sandland

who has WON a 3-month unlimited membership at The PEAK.
Congratulations Ania!

The promotion of sport and a physically active life for Women and Girls is so important, with the dropout rate for female participation in sport still far outstripping that of men, we need to break down any barriers and show the benefits sport can have for all women and girls. Our team at Active Stirling have really enjoyed collaborating with our partners and all the participants that managed to get involved this October. But I would encourage any females to keep it going or take steps today to get involved.
