Celebrating inclusive sport for children across Stirling

School pupils with disabilities and additional support needs from across the Stirling Council area came together on Wednesday 21 January for this year’s inspiring SportAbility Sportshall Athletics event.

Hosted across two venues—Raploch Campus in the morning and Wallace High School in the afternoon—the full‑day programme brought together enthusiastic young athletes from local schools for a fun, inclusive and energetic celebration of sport.

A day full of movement, confidence and smiles

Over 53 children from 9 Primary Schools and 41 children from 3 Secondary Schools across Stirling took part in the event, showcasing their talents through a dynamic, decathlon‑style format.

Pupils moved around a series of activity stations, including:

  • Sprinting
  • Jumping
  • Throwing
  • Pushing
  • Balance and coordination challenges

Each station was designed to build confidence, encourage participation, and ensure every child experienced success—regardless of ability.

The atmosphere was energetic and supportive, with classmates cheering each other on and celebrating achievements big and small.

Championing inclusion through SportAbility

Active Stirling’s SportAbility programme is dedicated to helping young people of all abilities—especially those with disabilities or additional support needs—discover the joy of sport and physical activity.

The programme focuses on:

  • Creating fun, accessible and meaningful opportunities
  • Encouraging movement and confidence
  • Building positive, inclusive experiences
  • Supporting extracurricular participation in a safe and supportive environment

It was fantastic to see so many individuals challenging themselves to run, jump, throw and push to the best of their own abilities. The event was set up to be inclusive to all participants and offer a fun and safe environment to learn new skills alongside their peers.
