What is Volunteers Week?

Volunteers' Week celebrates 40 years of volunteering. This is a chance to celebrate the remarkable contributions volunteers bring to communities throughout the UK.

At Active Stirling, volunteers play a pivotal role. Their dedication, time, and energy enrich the community by promoting sports, physical activity, and healthier living. Their commitment is truly inspiring!

Volunteers' week is a chance to recognise and say THANK YOU to our incredible volunteers; to celebrate the contribution they make to the Stirling community.

At Active Stirling, we are incredibly fortunate to have a fantastic volunteer workforce supporting our programmes across all Stirling communities. Without their dedication and commitment, many of these programmes would simply not run. We are immensely proud and grateful for the efforts of our volunteers, and we want to use Volunteers’ Week to give them a special mention and heartfelt thank you from all of us at Active Stirling.

Why is volunteering important?

Volunteering is all about making a difference in your community. Volunteering is one of the most rewarding things you can do, to help others and to also improve your own health and wellbeing.

At Active Stirling, we offer opportunities for people to volunteer; not only contribute to community well-being but also enhance personal skills, boosting employability and develop skills that strengthen employability opportunities in leisure and other sectors.

CONNECT Volunteering helps connect you with others and encourages teamwork and communication which then develops positive relationships. We run a range of programmes where you can connect as a volunteer.

When you volunteer with Active Stirling, you develop and learn new skills, which includes receiving industry recognised qualifications, external training and in-house training delivered by our highly experienced and qualified Active Stirling team.

Volunteering can counteract the feelings of stress, anxiety, depression, and anger as you’ll find the social aspects of volunteering can have a profound positive impact on your life. Taking time out for yourself and getting involved in something you enjoy doing helps support your positive mental and physical wellbeing.

Being involved in physical activity and sport helps improve mental health and wellbeing. By volunteering with us you naturally become more active.

Give your time to help others through volunteering will give you self-worth, confidence and grow your self-esteem. Giving your time to volunteer will make you feel happy and become part of a bigger team in a supportive environment.
