This May, Active Stirling is proud to take part in National Walking Month, encouraging people across Stirling to move more, enjoy the outdoors, and experience the many benefits of walking.

Walking is one of the simplest ways to stay active and support both physical and mental wellbeing — and best of all, it’s accessible to everyone.

To celebrate National Walking Month, we’re highlighting our free walking programme, launching a 31 Day Walking Challenge, and encouraging more people to get outside walking.

Join Our Free Walking Programme

We deliver a wide range of free, led walks across the Stirling area, designed to suit different abilities and walking preferences. All walks are led by trained and friendly volunteers who help create a supportive and welcoming environment.

Our programme includes:

  • Health Walks – short, gentle, friendly walks (up to around 2 miles), ideal for those starting out or building confidence
  • Community Walks – relaxed, social walks exploring local areas
  • Walk Forward – longer walks (around 4–5 miles) for more confident walkers
  • Nordic Walking – a full body walking activity using poles and technique

Whether you’re looking to improve your fitness, meet new people, or simply enjoy getting outdoors, there’s a walk for you. If you enjoy walking, why don’t you sign up to volunteer with our walking groups, or we can help support you to start your own walking group.

Walking is such a simple but powerful way to support both physical and mental wellbeing. Our walks are about much more than just movement — they’re about connection, confidence, and enjoying time outdoors together. National Walking Month is a great opportunity to get involved, whether you’re joining a walk or thinking about volunteering or starting your own walk.

Take Part in Our 31 Day Walking Challenge

To help you get moving throughout the month, we’ve created a 31 Day Walking Challenge for May.

Each day features a simple walking prompt — from mindful walks and nature spotting to exploring new routes and walking with others. The challenges are designed to be flexible, fun, and achievable.

You don’t have to complete the days in order.
Choose the challenges that suit your ability and routine — every step counts.

The calendar can be downloaded or saved and followed throughout the month, and participants are encouraged to share their progress on social media and tag Active Stirling.

Become a Volunteer Walk Leader

Our walking programme wouldn’t be possible without our incredible Volunteer Walk Leaders, who give their time to support others, encourage confidence, and build stronger community connections.

Volunteering as a Walk Leader or Buddy Walker is a rewarding way to:

  • Stay active
  • Support others in your community
  • Meet new people
  • Gain training and experience

Full training is provided, and volunteer roles are flexible to fit around your availability.

If you enjoy walking and would like to make a positive difference, we’d love to hear from you.

Walk Your Way Through May

National Walking Month is the perfect time to build healthy habits, explore Stirling’s paths and green spaces, and enjoy walking together.

Whether you join a led walk, take part in the 31 Day Walking Challenge, or support the programme as a volunteer — we’d love for you to be part of it.

Step into May with Active Stirling and let’s get walking.
