Stirling’s young athletes shine at annual Primary Schools Track and Field event!
This year’s Primary Schools Track & Field event was a wonderful celebration of team spirit, sportsmanship, and healthy competition — and a testament to the power of sport in helping children grow, flourish, and enjoy physical activity.
On Wednesday 11 June, 18 schools and hundreds of children from across Stirling came together at the University of Stirling’s athletics track for a day filled with activity, friendship, and pure fun — all delivered by Active Stirling’s Active Schools team alongside community volunteers and members of the Central Athletics Club.
Pupils challenged themselves in a range of track and field disciplines — from short and long-distance races, high jump, long jump, turbo javelin, shot put, and relays — scoring points for their schools and developing their confidence, skills, and team-working abilities along the way.
With St Margaret’s School joining the SportAbility activities, the event truly celebrated inclusion — giving every child the opportunity to take part and enjoy the excitement of the day.

Overall school standings were as follows:
- 1st place - Dunblane Primary with 211 points
- 2nd place - Newton Primary with 210 points
- 3rd place - Cornton Primary with 201 points
Here's some highlights from the event!
It was excellent to have 18 schools join us for our 2025 Track & Field event. The day was filled with competition, team spirit, and enthusiasm, with all athletes giving their best. Well done to all who took part — and congratulations to all the medallists!
Lord Provost Elaine Watterson was in attendance and recognised the enthusiasm and spirit shown by all children and schools:
It was wonderful to see so many schools involved — especially from our rural communities. The enthusiasm and energy from the children was truly inspiring. It was a pleasure to be a part of such a well-organised and positive event.
At Active Stirling, we’re passionate about helping children reach their potential and foster a lifelong love for sport. Our Primary Schools Track & Field event is just one way we bring this passion to life — offering children a platform to grow, make friends, and celebrate their achievements together.
