Active Stirling celebrates inclusive Supervised Walk Leader training at Riverbank Resource Centre
Active Stirling is proud to be championing inclusion and wellbeing through its latest Supervised Walk Leader Training, delivered in partnership with Stirling Council’s Riverbank Resource Centre.
The training session, delivered in collaboration with Riverbank Resource Centre and supported by trusted staff, saw seven service users and one member of staff gain the skills and confidence to become Supervised Walk Leaders. The training took place at Forthbank and will support the delivery of the popular Riverside Health Walk programme.
Removing barriers through Supervised Walk Leader training
The Supervised Walk Leader Award was developed by Active Stirling to remove barriers to participation and create meaningful volunteering opportunities for people who may need additional support. Delivered alongside support workers, the programme enables participants to take on an active leadership role while feeling safe, included and part of their wider community.
Building confidence, skills and community connection
During the training, participants explored key skills including road safety, managing different walking scenarios and communicating confidently with walkers. By discussing real-life situations and encouraging individuals to respond in their own words, the course helped build independence, confidence and a strong sense of achievement.
Active Stirling are proud to promote inclusivity when it comes to our walk leaders. We created the supervised walk leader award to allow service users from Riverbank Resource Centre and beyond to support our Riverside Health Walk. Supported by their support workers, it allows them to feel part of the community, while learning new skills, building confidence and reducing barriers to participation.
Supporting the Riverside Health Walk
The new leaders will now support the Riverside Health Walk, helping to welcome new walkers and encourage more people to enjoy the physical, mental and social benefits of walking. Health walks play a key role in supporting wellbeing, reducing isolation, and making regular physical activity accessible for everyone.
With this latest group trained, Active Stirling now has nine Supervised Walk Leaders, reflecting its ongoing commitment to inclusive volunteering pathways and community-led physical activity.
This work builds on the continued success of the Riverside Health Walk, which was recognised in 2025, and follows previous volunteer celebrations, including James Ferguson’s volunteer award win in 2024.
Active Stirling would like to thank Riverbank Resource Centre and Stirling Council for their valued partnership and ongoing support in helping make physical activity welcoming and accessible for all.
