We’re incredibly proud to share that Ellie Hodge (16), one of Active Stirling’s dedicated young volunteers, has been named Young Scot of the Year 2025—after also winning the Health and Wellbeing Award at this year’s Young Scot Awards, held at Platform in Glasgow on Monday 16 June.

Ellie wins top two awards on the night

Ellie, who has volunteered more than 200 hours with Active Stirling, was shortlisted from over 400 nominees across Scotland. Her outstanding contribution to inclusive sport and physical activity earned her the Health and Wellbeing Award, before being crowned the overall Young Scot of the Year—the highest honour of the evening. Ellie received her award from Natalie Don-Innes MSP, Minister for Children, Young People and the Promise.

A message from Scotland’s First Minister

First Minister John Swinney shared his praise for Ellie and the other finalists:

Ellie is the embodiment of resilience, kindness and leadership. Her work supporting others, particularly those with additional needs, is not only inspiring but deeply impactful.

First Minister John Swinney

Thank you to Ellie and to all of Scotland’s young people who are going above and beyond to help their communities. You are making Scotland a place of connection, kindness and compassion.

Supporting inclusive sport across Stirling

Over the last two years, Ellie has played a key role in a wide range of Active Stirling programmes, including:

  • The PEAK Holiday Camps
  • Health Walks
  • Bikes Without Barriers
  • SportAbility and Inspire Stirling

She has also completed specialist training in autism awareness, disability in sport, and sighted guiding through partners including Scottish Disability Sport and Guide Dogs Scotland.

Ellie’s journey continues to inspire—she recently joined Active Stirling as a Relief Ice Guard and plans to continue volunteering during school holidays.

I still can’t believe I won! Volunteering with Active Stirling has given me so many opportunities to grow and meet incredible people. I’ve learned so much and love being part of something that helps make sport accessible for everyone.
