More than just a race – it was a day of muddy trainers, big smiles, and unbeatable school spirit!
On Thursday 1 May 2025, Strathyre came alive with energy as Active Stirling hosted its much-loved annual Mini Stuc a’ Chroin Hill Race for local primary schools. Delivered by the dedicated Active Schools team, the event welcomed over 160 enthusiastic pupils from 13 schools across Stirling and the McLaren Learning Community.
Open to pupils in Primary 4 to Primary 7, the Mini Stuc gives young athletes the chance to put their endurance and determination to the test – all while enjoying some of Scotland’s most breathtaking natural scenery. The challenging course saw runners take on steep uphill climbs, rugged terrain, and a speedy downhill dash to the finish line on flatter ground.
For many of the youngsters, it was their first taste of hill running – and they absolutely smashed it! With sunshine breaking through the clouds and the weather staying dry, the conditions were perfect for a morning of outdoor fun and friendly competition.

A huge well done to all our brilliant young runners who took part in this year’s Mini Stuc! It was fantastic to see so many Stirling Primary Schools come together for this exciting event. We’re incredibly grateful to the Stuc a’ Chroin committee and all the amazing volunteers who help make this happen every year – we couldn’t do it without you!

The Mini Stuc continues to be a highlight in the school sports calendar, inspiring a love of hill running and adventure in our local young people.
