Update for PEAK users
Update for PEAK users – indoor group classes and swimming pools

Active Stirling can confirm that bookings for indoor group fitness classes at The PEAK will open within the next seven days.

These classes initially planned for Monday 14 September were delayed after planned works by Stirling Council in the sports hall - which started as soon as it could under Scottish Government covid guidance - identified an issue that required further precautionary checks.

While this review work has now been completed in the ice rink and is being concluded in the sports hall, the process is still ongoing in the hall containing the swimming pools and these facilities will not be able to reopen, as scheduled on the routemap, on Monday, September 28.

Every effort has been made to complete the works to allow people to start using the swimming pools on Monday but this has not been possible.

We anticipate this will be short delay and will update the public as soon as we receive the green light for reopening.

Andrew Bain, Chief Executive at Active Stirling, who manage The PEAK on behalf of Stirling Council said “This unexpected delay in opening the swimming pools at The PEAK, is a disappointing set back for everyone concerned, particularly as we have been working hard over the last few months, in line with Scottish Government and industry guidance, to reopen as many areas of The PEAK as safely and as carefully as we can, following closure due to Covid-19.

“Whilst we appreciate the news of this delay is most unwelcome, the safety of the building, our customers and employees, aside from the additional Covid-19 safety measures now in place operationally, is of paramount importance to everyone.

“As soon as we have confirmation from Stirling Council that the building checks are completed for the swimming pools (which we hope will be imminent) I assure you we will open for public swimming bookings. I appreciate this is a popular membership activity and I can only apologise that we are not able to open as originally planned.”

In line with the Active Stirling Routemap, several areas of The PEAK are already open following Scottish Government Covid-19 approval for the leisure sector to reopen from Monday, 31 August.

These activities and services include: The PEAK gym , U16s gym and fitness, indoor cycling classes, fitness and exercise classes live streaming, The PEAK climbing wall for registered adult climbers, adult pay as you go outdoor exercise classes, PEAK FIT camps, modified outdoor pitch bookings, modified British Curling and limited club curling currently available. Ice skating and curling are planned to resume in mid-October.

Cllr Chris Kane, Convener of Stirling Council’s Community Planning and Regeneration Committee, which oversees sports and physical activity as well as the partnership with Active Stirling, said: “While I am pleased people will soon be able to start booking indoor classes at The PEAK, adding to the activities and services that are already back underway, I understand people will be disappointed that the swimming pools will not reopen as planned on September 28.

“The swimming pools at The PEAK are hugely popular, and we know the wide-ranging health and wellbeing benefits of physical activity, but the safety of the public and staff must always be paramount with these decisions.

“These checks are underway, so I am hopeful this delay will be a short as possible and people will soon be back using the pool with all appropriate covid safety measures in place.”
