The PEAK gym to reopen Monday 31 August

The PEAK gym in Stirling is getting ready to open its first indoor zone and welcome everyone back when it re-opens this Monday, 31 August.

Active Stirling, the charitable trust which manages sport, physical activity, health and wellbeing services on behalf of Stirling Council, has confirmed it is bringing forward the opening date for the gym, originally scheduled for Monday, 14 September, to this Monday, 31 August.

This follows the Scottish Government announcement last Thursday (20 August) that gyms could open sooner than the previously published indicative date of Monday, 14 September, provided all safety and Covid-19 measures were met.

Active Stirling has also confirmed it will bring forward the opening of the indoor cycling zone from the originally planned date of Monday, 14 September to Monday, 7 September.

The opening of the gym at The PEAK on Monday, 31 August, will be the first indoor zone to open.

Openings, activities and operations have been phased by leisure trusts to ensure the safety of customers and staff and Active Stirling will roll out further services and activities and open its zones in line with its latest Routemap.

As detailed in the updated Routemap, Active Stirling has confirmed timings for opening the indoor zones at The PEAK as follows –

Active Stirling community fitness and health programmes will start, along with Active Stirling training and development and employability and volunteering.
Please note that the routemap and phased reopening of The PEAK is in line with the latest Scottish Government Covid-19 guidance and is subject to change.
Andrew Bain, Active Stirling’s Chief Executive said “We’re delighted that we are in a position to bring forward the opening of the gym at The PEAK to this Monday 31 August.
“The news received last Thursday that gyms and leisure centres could open in 10 days’ time was most welcome and since then we have worked incredibly hard to make this happen, with the opening of our first indoor zone, followed swiftly by the opening of our second indoor zone the following week.
“For several months now we have developed clearly marked safe isolated zones putting all Covid-19 measures in place, so it makes sense to open the indoor zones gradually and in a phased and safe manner, to make sure everything is implemented properly.”

Cllr Chris Kane, Convener of Stirling Council’s Community Planning and Regeneration Committee, which oversees Sport and Physical Activity as well as the partnership with Active Stirling, said: “Getting the gym open at The PEAK two weeks earlier than planned is fantastic news for users and a welcome milestone in the phased reopening of this much-loved facility.
“There are clear health and wellbeing benefits of sport and physical activity and, while Active Stirling is working hard to safely reopen more parts of The PEAK and restart other services, it will continue to strictly adhere to Scottish Government Covid-19 guidance to ensure the safety of the public and staff remains paramount.”

Active Stirling will open for bookings for the adult gym sessions from Friday 28 August. Activities must be pre booked in advance through an online account or the Active Stirling app.  Gym sessions are for 16 years+.

Online bookings for adult indoor cycling classes will open on Monday 31 August to start Monday 7 September.

Online bookings for public swim sessions will open on Monday 21 September for public swim sessions to start on Monday 28 September.
