Newton Primary wins Central Primary Schools badminton quaich

The PEAK played host to the annual Central School's Primary Quaich on Friday 2 February. The schools attending were Dunblane, Newton, Menstrie and Tillicoultry Primary Schools.
The Quaich is a team event, with teams made up of four boys and four girls. Each tie is made up of five games (boys singles and doubles; girls singles and doubles; mixed doubles) with each player playing in only one of the five games.
The semi-finals were close affairs, with Newton vs Menstrie going down to the last game in a 3-2 thriller. Dunblane also overcame a good Tillicoultry side, to set up a rematch of the Stirling top-two. Newton came out 4-1 winners, and will progress to represent Central Region in the National Gibb Memorial Quaich to be held at Ravenscraig Sport Centre, Motherwell, on Saturday 24 March.
Paul O'Shea, Active Stirling’s Active Schools Coordinator said "It was another evening of excellent badminton, providing an opportunity for some of the best Primary badminton players in the region to compete together, and a pathway to progress to the National event. Well done to all who took part, and best of luck to Newton Primary School in the Gibb Memorial Quaich later this month."
