McLaren Learning Community Celebrate Maths Week Scotland

Maths Week Scotland took place from Monday 28 September – Friday 2 October and Primary 5 pupils from across the McLaren Learning Community celebrated with the help of Active Stirling who delivered a Numeracy in Athletics programme.
Throughout the week Primary 5 pupils took part in events such as relay races, long jump, triple jump and javelin and had to use their maths skills to measure distances and record times.
Sports Leaders in S6 at McLaren High School made videos demonstrating each event to help the primary schools.  The S6 Sports Leaders also hosted a video call with double Olympian and maths graduate Eilish McColgan who answered questions from primary pupils about her experiences in athletics and maths.
Active Stirling received a funding grant to help deliver the programme and this allowed them to provide each primary school in the learning community with a pack of resources to deliver the programme in their own school.
Claire Peebles, Active Schools Co-ordinator with Active Stirling said,
“It was brilliant to see pupils developing their maths skills while being physically active. I would like to send a big thank you to the S6 Sports Leaders at McLaren High School for helping with the programme, Eilish McColgan for taking part and Maths Week Scotland for their support of the project.”
