Jonesy's Boxing Club continue their competition form at the recent 2019 Boxing Scotland School and Junior Championships winning 4 Gold medals and 1 silver medal. The event took place at Ravenscraig High Performance Centre, Motherwell on Saturday 23 and Sunday 24 of February.
In the Schoolboys Championship Marky Alexander took home the Gold medal in the 37kg weight category with Harrison Baxter (44kg) and Alan Perrie (52kg) completing a hattrick of Gold medals at this age group. Lee Welsh was a single entry in his weight of 57kg so was unfortunate in not getting a fight.
The success continued in the Junior Championships with Colin Cairney taking Gold in the 52kg weight category with Josh Alexander putting in a great performance to reach the final and take home the Silver medal in the 50kg event.
“Well done to all medallists and to Lee for putting in some great work in training and being fully prepared for the Championships,” said Allen Gibson, Active Stirling Community Activation Officer, "The club are consistently going to Local, Regional, National and International events and bringing home titles to their home of Plean. It is an amazing achievement with so many home grown boxers going on to great success in the sport. The club have a real track record of producing champions and with the high level of volunteer commitment this can only continue to go from strength to strength!".
Jonesy’s Boxing Club is in the process of extending their facility and working with Active Stirling to obtain funding. They are also looking for sponsors to assist in the project to achieve their goal. If you would like any further information please contact Allen Gibson on 01786 273555 or email
