The excellent summer weather didn’t disappoint last week as around 300 people took part in the annual Forth Valley Recovery Community Olympics at the Mayfield Centre on Friday 27 July.
This event is now in its third year and is run by Forth Valley Recovery Community.  It is a great occasion, bringing together those in our community affected by drug and alcohol addiction. Teams from working partners, other recovery communities across Scotland, family and friends all come together in this fun filled day to compete in various activities and events to win the Olympics.
Events included sprint races, egg and spoon race, wheelbarrow race, 3 legged race, relay sprint, sack race, tug o’war and hungry hippo.

This year the overall winners on the day were Restoration Fife in 1st place while the Active Stirling Activators took 2nd place.
Christina Feaks, Physical Activity Inclusion Officer at Active Stirling said “I am thrilled to support this event as it provides families an opportunity to take part in sport and enjoy time together, which they might otherwise not have. The social benefits of the day are as important as the physical activities taking place. It is a great chance for those involved to have fun, make connections and celebrate recovery.”
Jardine Simpson, Recovery Development Team Leader at Forth Valley Recovery Community said "This is what makes our work worth while, making recovery visible in our community.  Over 300 people attended this event, our biggest to date.  It was a fantastic day with teams from all over Scotland competing.  We could not have made this day possible without the hard work and dedication of our volunteers.
The event is held by the Forth Valley Recovery Community in partnership with Active Stirling, Signpost Recovery, Restoration Fife, Glasgow South West Recovery, Scottish Recovery Consortium Glasgow, Forth Valley NHS Mental Health Team, Forth Valley Hospital Substance Misuse, NHS Blood Borne Virus team and other partners.
