Buggy and bump walks in Stirling!
Buggy and bump walks in Stirling organised by Active Stirling and supported by Spirit of 2012 and Legacy 2014 has been a great success for the local community by given new parents and mums-to-be a better and healthier lifestyle to share their experiences with others.

Buggy walks started in 2014, the programme was designed to help parents improve their fitness with their babies, stop for a chat and coffee and share their experiences with others. Buggy walks was first introduced in Bridge of Allan, Bannockburn, Doune and Dunblane with a further two new walks in Raploch and Cowie added last year. Raploch and Cowie walks have taken root splendidly. During the year they have grown to include mums with bumps too, so are now called buggy & bump walks. They are weekly, free, one hour long walks, for mum's-to-be, parents, relatives and carers with youngsters who are still in a buggy, pram, backpack or sling. Those participating are there to meet other new parents and improve their fitness by joining in the 1 hour walks. They are led by qualified walk leaders and finish at a venue where folk can stop for a coffee and chat afterwards.
We started with just one or two attending each week but now numbers over ten are often seen in Raploch and half a dozen in Cowie. Mum's regard these walks as a life line. One mum said: "If it wasn't for buggy & bump walks, I'd not speak to anyone all day, except baby, that is!" Another said: "I get to know my own area so much better. I had no idea that there were so many nice places to walk in my own village.”

Some mums have liked their walks so much that they have sought out the walks in the other areas, leading to great gains in their fitness and sense of wellbeing. Another Mum added: "Meeting people and exercising at the same time has been a great boost to my life as a new parent.”
