Active living for life

Active living for life is Active Stirling’s Exercise Referral Scheme which is a physical activity programme targeted at individuals who currently live inactive lifestyles and are suffering from one and more medical or mental conditions but whose health would benefit from increased levels of physical activity. Active living for life provides opportunities for those individuals within the Stirling community to become more physically active by providing them with specialist professional advice, support, programming and instruction. This service combined with new state of the art technology encourages individuals to increase their physical activity participation to meet the recommended levels so that physical activity becomes a tool for long term management and treatment of their health.

Our scheme has been open to referrals since April 2013 and the statistical information gathered along with qualitative feedback from users has been very positive since the scheme started.  Throughout this time we had follow-on rates with figures approaching 90% of those who have completed their 12 week brief intervention, recognising the benefits of physical activity and going on to take out membership at our sports centre and continuing to exercise. This compares with a national average across the UK for exercise referral schemes of around  30 to 40% patient follow on rates after a brief intervention, signalling a remarkable success for our scheme to date.

The scheme runs from The PEAK but is also available one day a week at the Raploch Campus.
