clubgolf - Central Sports Development Group
What is clubgolf?
clubgolf is the most exciting and far-reaching junior golf development programme ever undertaken in Scotland. It is the legacy of Scotland’s Ryder Cup 2009 bid and seeks to re-invigorate the junior game throughout Scotland.
clubgolf is a partnership between the Scottish Golf Union, the Scottish Ladies Golfing Association, the Professional Golfers’ Association, the Golf Foundation, sportscotland and the Scottish Government.
By 2009, we will have created the opportunity for every child in Scotland to have an introduction to the game by the time they are nine years old.” – First Minister of the Scottish Government 2001.
We are working with a range of partners across the country to achieve our aims. These partners include golf clubs, golf facilities, local authorities and many other local, regional and national partners.
What is happening locally and regionally?
Ensuring that fun, safe, relevant opportunities exist in golf for children regardless of ability or background is of paramount importance to the partners involved in writing and implementing ‘The Strategy for the Development of Junior Golf in Central Scotland’.
This document will be driven forward and supported by four local authority partners; Central Sports Development Group (an established regional sports partnership comprising Clackmannanshire Council, Falkirk Council, Stirling Council), West Lothian Council and many local, regional and national partners.
The ‘Strategy for the Development of Junior Golf in Central Scotland’ will contribute towards National Strategy objectives whilst clearly meeting the needs of local authorities in terms of their existing priorities and strategies. The Strategy will be flexible by nature and will align with each of the four diverse communities, helping to address local issues whilst providing an overarching framework for local authorities to work towards.
All four local authorities have demonstrated a strong interest in golf development and have introduced various initiatives to stimulate the game over the years. These four local authorities are committed, through partnership working, to develop and implement the clubgolf programme locally and regionally. By way of a co-ordinated pathway through schools, clubs and performance, a clubgolf Central Regional Manager was appointed to focus primarily on developing golf for children in these areas.
The targets set are already proving achievable through the hard work and commitment of professional officers and volunteers passionate about bringing golf into the lives of all children in the Central Scotland area.
With this Strategy in place every child will have the opportunity to experience the game of golf by 2009 and reach their potential in a sport they can play for life.
