A newly trained team of games leaders are currently working within playgrounds in Stirling helping to encourage children to be more active during their break times. The Playground Squaddie Initiative is now running in 36 Primary Schools across Stirling.
However the difference with this initiative is that it is the senior pupils who lead the activities for the younger children and not external coaches. Primary 6 & 7 pupils across Stirling have completed a six week leadership and games training course that provides them with the skills they need to be Playground Squaddies.
The Playground Squaddies lead a variety of games during the morning and afternoon breaks. They are slowly re-educating the younger children of the traditional games that have gradually disappeared from the school playground, and even more important than that, they are having great fun!!
