Active Schools in Secondary Schools

Our Active Schools programme in Secondary Schools delivers experiences for children to take part in physical activities before school, at lunchtime and after school. Our activities also link with accredited community sports clubs in order to provide a pathway into community activities.  Examples of some of the work the Active Schools team deliver include;

Extra – Curricular Programmes

To develop opportunities before school, at lunchtime and after school for all secondary schools across Stirling. Activities will be varied in order to get as many young people as people involved in regular sport and physical activities.

School-Club Links

A main part of our work is to connect into the community and link with local community clubs accredited through Clubsport Stirling. We try to deliver strong community pathways in each community, providing activities in school that link into local community clubs.

Competitions and Festivals

Active Schools are working throughout the year to organise various sporting events across the local authority area.  We have a member of the team who has a remit on developing School Sport Competition and works to provide more competitive opportunities, initially within secondary schools. To give an idea of the opportunities available to secondary schools across Stirling then our 2016-17 calendar is below. Link to secondary calendar

School Leadership Programmes

Active Schools Co-ordinators work to develop sports leadership opportunities within secondary schools so that young people have access to a range of leadership roles and are encouraged, supported and mentored to reach their potential.

School Sport Award

The sportscotland School Sport Award is a national, Lottery funded initiative designed to encourage schools to continuously improve physical education (PE) and school sport opportunities. Within Stirling, we have the target for all schools to achieve a minimum of a Silver award by June 2017.
